Our next visit

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know that our next visit is on December 13th. We will meet at the church at 1 pm. Below is what we will be doing.

All we will be doing is going up to certain floors in the Wilson Health Care Center and getting residents. We bring them down to the "events center" and stay during the production (which by the way is a high-school string ensemble!) We bring the residents back to their floors at the end of the concert. There is nothing hard about it. It is SO fun too! Thanks for being interested in gen2gen!

Our November visit

This is an update on our November 8th visit to Asbury. It was really fun! We will keep you posted on future dates! This is our group L to R: Me, Allison, Amanda, Rachel, and Mrs. Kutten.

We met at the church at 1 p.m. Of course, we made the mistake of telling everyone to meet in the parking lot. There are about 5 different parking lots at CLC, but we found each other okay. We drove to Asbury and met up with the Activity Coordinator. After waiting for a few minutes, we paired up and went to go get residents in their rooms or in the lobbies on that certain floor. We brought them down to the “events center” and went to go get more. It was fun to be able to talk to the residents as we wheeled them to their location. They were very nice and some were talkative. We stayed during the musical performance and then brought the residents back to their floors. They had name cards on the back of their wheelchairs which stated their name and what floor they were on. We all had a good time. On the way home, we talked about funny moments, good memories, and how we liked it. Everyone had a positive remark about their experience. We hope to have many more future dates!

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Who can participate in gen2gen?
Answer: Participation is open to 10:31 teens and their parents. Consistent with the 10:31 philosophy, parents are encouraged to participate with their teens but it is not required.

Question: How often does gen2gen serve at Asbury?
Answer: Initially, gen2gen will be going to Asbury one Saturday per month.

Question: What can I expect if I participate?
Answer: Each Saturday, Asbury hosts an activity for their residents. The activities vary from week to week. As volunteers, we will be assisting and interacting with the residents as they attend the events. For example, on November 8, there will be a music recital.

Question: What is the time commitment?
Answer: The programs are from 1:30pm to 4:00pm each Saturday. We will meet at CLC at 1:00pm and go to Asbury together. We will return to the church by 4:30pm.

Question: How many volunteers do you need?
Answer: Asbury has indicated that they need, at most, 10 volunteers per activity so we have 10 slots that are filled first come first served.

Question: Can I serve just one time or do I need to commit to more than that?
Answer: You can serve one time. Each month, volunteers from the prior month are given the opportunity to sign up. Then, if there are any remaining slots, they are opened up to the whole 10:31 on a first come first served basis.

Questions: How will the process of filling remaining slots work?
Answer: If there are remaining slots after the previous month’s volunteers have signed up, an email will be sent to teens who have expressed interest by giving us their email address. If the slots aren’t filled by those teens, an announcement will be made at the 10:31 meeting.

Questions: Do you anticipate expanding the ministry to more than one Saturday a month?
Answer: That is a future possibility. However, initially it will be one Saturday a month.

Question: Can I participate in gen2gen in a role other than a volunteer at Asbury?
Answer: Possibly. As the ministry gets defined, there will be administrative roles available (e.g. webmaster for blog, volunteer coordinator) so feel free to email us with your interests and we will keep you updated.

Question: How do I send you my email if I am interested in getting on the email list for open slots?
Answer: Use the "Contact me" link in the upper right hand corner to send us an email.
